Jillian arrived in El Salvador in early February 2008 to volunteer for two years through Brethren Volunteer Service in partnership with the Foundation for Self-Sufficiency in Central America (in partnership with La Coordinadora/Asociación Mangle). She mainly works with a network of small community stores, helping with deliveries and doing a lot of record-keeping. She lives with a local family in a small rural community just south of the Carretera Litoral in between the Rio Lempa and the Bahia de Jiquilisco and scribbles a bit in a journal almost every night before going to bed, then types up that journal once a week or so and posts it here for the world (or possibly just her mom) to see.
I’m really enjoying your blogs. I can’t believe you have the energy to write in such detail each night. What an adventure you are having!
At times I wish I was there as I miss the children. I join you and them in my thoughts.
We’ll meet next week to talk about our trip and hope to find out from Sher if the art program has received enough funds to continue.
