Hello. I stumbled upon your blog and thank you for it. My wife Susana and I lived and and worked in Ciudad Romero for two years back when the community first repatriated. We were pretty much there on day one, working with the a group called Mennonite Central Committee but under the auspices of Jesuit Refugee Service, when people were still living under plastic tarps. It was 2 of the hardest years of my life, but also among the most rewarding, in many ways. I don't recognize most of the names you list. I guess that is to be expected as nearly 20 years have passed. I imagine the old white haired lady, Carmen, might be one of our dearest friends there and our neighbor. My first job there was to teach a couple of men to drive the tractor the community had just bought.. a man named Rene was one of the men I worked with. Later we helped with home construction and letrinization projects both in C.R. and in Nueva Esperanza nearby. My wife worked with nutrition and family gardening projects with the women and helped with catechism. Thanks for bringing back memories.

Hi Jilian,
I just looked back at Tracy's email and realized that she did send me your blog site. It was fun to read and imagine you with many people I know and of course, many I don't. I'mglad to hear you are enjoying Balbino. He is one of my favorite "kids". I have a large painting he did of a beautiful Salvadorena hanging in my home. He is a very gifted painter and I felt sad when we were there to hear he is not having much time to paint now that he is working for the Coordinadora but it is good he has a job and hopefully, earning a little money. Please give him my warm regards. I'll check your blog from time to time.

Hi Jillian,

I've been keeping up with your writings. It's probably the only connection now that I have to the El Salvador ...Anyway, it's good to hear you are doing your best and more than that..doing it.

I just haven 't figured out exact plans to make it back yet and what exactly to do when I get there. I guess a bit more art never hurts and maybe a trip to Suchitoto. When do you plan to visit Sister Peggy? I imagine that could lift spirits. The fresh air can always do a number. Remember what she said to you....

We are considering an art workshop sometime next year in Suchitoto. Need to check with Sister Peggy...and figure out the logistics. I think we would like to visit C.R. and then get a ride up to the mountains and stay a week or two. Maybe less of a delegation trip and more of a casual follow up. No idea what we can arrange.

I admire your ability to keep up the efforts. I enjoy your writings. Can't believe the mud pit. That was pretty crazy. Sorry you had to go through that. It's great that you ventured out to Costa and Nicaragua.

I will continue to read and thank you for sharing.

Take care and please tell Noe, Robin, and Jualgar (if you see him) hello for me.

Take care,
Tracy

I'm really enjoying your blogs. I can't believe you have the energy to write in such detail each night. What an adventure you are having!

At times I wish I was there as I miss the children. I join you and them in my thoughts.

We'll meet next week to talk about our trip and hope to find out from Sher if the art program has received enough funds to continue.

Jllian,

Great reading all the updates. It definitely seems like things have changed for the better. I did want to alert you that I di send off a package to you with the larger mosquito net and some goodies. They siad it should take 8 - 10 days (and that was air mail!!) Anyway it was sent on the 7th of March so I guess you can begin to look for it accordingly. Please let me know if you have any problems with it. I'll send you an e-mail just to be sure you got this notice. We are all thinking of you alot and wish you all the best. I was thinking of taking all your blog input and collecting them all in an album with the photos. Let me know what you think. Speak with you again soon--- Uncle Ron
